In March of 1968 the Missouri legislature appropriated $100,000 to the University of Missouri Board of Curators for a state kidney program to assist Missouri's end-stage renal diseases (ESRD) population with life-sustaining dialysis. The Missouri RMP, a federally funded program administratively attached to the University of Missouri was chosen by the Missouri legislature to develop the state renal diseases program. The Missouri RMP agreed to absorb the administrative cost so all state dollars could be targeted for direct patient care. Medicare and Medicaid cover at least 80% of allowable charges for dialysis and transplantation for eligible patients. The FY92 state allocation was $3,605,322. The Missouri Kidney Program provided assistance to 2,387 end stage renal disease patients through contracts with 70 participating facilities [AER]
